Sculptra®

Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler primarily used to address volume loss in the face, neck, and decollete area and stimulate natural collagen production. It consists of a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is designed to plump up and contour areas of the face and body that have lost volume due to aging or other factors.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra’s results are progressive and can take several weeks to become fully apparent. This is because Sculptra works by gradually stimulating collagen production in the treated areas rather than simply filling in wrinkles and lines.

Sculptra treatments usually involve a series of injections administered over 2-3 sessions for the most effective results. The number of treatments needed will depend on the degree of the volume loss and the desired outcome. The results of Sculptra can last up to 2 years or more, but follow-up treatments may be necessary to maintain optimal results. And just as with Radiesse, Sculptra is not permanent. However, it’s much longer lasting than any of the other fillers, stimulating the skin’s natural collagen production.

Benefits of Sculptra®

FAQ

Sculptra® is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible substance that promotes collagen production in the skin. This synthetic material has been used in medical applications for decades and is safely absorbed by the body over time. Sculptra® works differently from traditional fillers by gradually stimulating collagen production, leading to natural-looking results that develop over several months.
The number of Sculptra® treatments varies depending on individual needs, the extent of volume loss, and desired results. In most cases, 2 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
Sculptra® injections are generally well-tolerated by most patients. The treatment area is numbed with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Additionally, Sculptra® is mixed with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which further reduces any potential pain during injection. Patients typically report feeling only mild pressure or a slight pinching sensation during the treatment. Any discomfort is usually brief and subsides quickly after the procedure is completed.
It is possible to combine Sculptra® with other cosmetic treatments like Botox® or dermal fillers for a comprehensive facial rejuvenation approach. Many practitioners use Sculptra® as part of a holistic treatment plan to address various signs of aging. For example, Sculptra® can be used to restore volume, while Botox® can target dynamic wrinkles, and hyaluronic acid fillers can address specific areas needing immediate volume.
Common side effects of Sculptra® may include redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These typically resolve within a few days. In rare cases, small bumps under the skin in the treated area may occur. These usually disappear on their own but can be long-lasting. Following post-treatment instructions, including massaging the treated areas, is important to help distribute the product evenly. Serious side effects are rare when a qualified healthcare professional administers Sculptra®.
A typical Sculptra® treatment session lasts about 30-45 minutes, making it convenient for those with busy schedules. This includes time for cleansing the skin, applying numbing cream, and the actual injection process. The length of your appointment may vary depending on the number of areas being treated and the amount of product needed. Some patients choose to have their treatments during lunch breaks or between other daily activities due to the minimal downtime associated with Sculptra®.
